The most crucial aspect of using any ear candles is that you don't try to do it by yourself. After all you will be lying down, your vision is away from the candle and the deeper relaxed you are the increase in the risk as the candle burns. Consequently you should always only attempt ear candling with a partner, someone who can be present at all times and literally hold the candle for the whole time it burns. We're dealing with fire of course and the same way that you wouldn't leave your child near a camp fire, you wouldn't want to leave your partner with an ear candle burning as they fall into a deeper state of relaxation with fire quickly approaching their head area!
If you imagine laying down flat with your head on a small pillow, not too much of an angle, then you are required to always have the ear candle at a 90 degree upright vertical angle to the ear. Read that again. At an upright vertical angle to the ear so that the candle is not leaning in any way. If you have ever lent a normal candle in the home, as it burns at an angle, you'll know that within a flash wax can drip off the side. The same applies with ear candles, you always want the candle in a straight upright position to reduce the possibility at all of wax dripping. This is why it is important that your partner always holds the candle upright for the whole time, approximately 8 minutes or so.
When we lay down and cannot see behind and above our ear our sense of 'angle' is completely lost so don't take chances and adhere to this rule. However there are also some valuable tips for when using ear candles as you want to enjoy the experience as much as possible and reduce the risk of injury of course. Only a few candles that are available take the extra responsible step of supplying in their packet what they call a 'protective disk'. What would this be you might ask? Well this disk is deigned to be used in conjunction with the candle a bit like fitting your hand in a glove .. you insert the ear candle into a round disk up to a designated stop mark.
Whilst it is extremely unlikely the disk is designed as an extra precautionary measure to prevent dripping down the side of the candle and venturing towards the ear or head area. A novel design which really gives you extra peace of mind. try hunting down these brands as they have taken the responsible approach to ensure your safety. Can you see where we're heading here .. a partner to hold the candle upright ..an extra protective disk. Days gone by individuals would mock up there own paper plate for the same purpose. There is no need now provided you stick to a brand that supplies these disks.
Lastly and some might regard this as extreme, it is always advisable to completely cover the head, ear area and the face with a nice warm damp flannel for total protection. The warmth of the flannel actually induces another level of deep relaxation. So take on board these sensible tips to ensure extra safety for you and your partner, particularly if it is your first time. Some individuals even add in the bonus light head massage for their partner as they totally relax. You may well argue as to who tries it our first .. as invariably the second partner will want to just drift away and fall asleep .. it really can have that affect.
